I know I hardly do the logic facts but I have to for marks sake. On television there is a world of Diversity is insane!!!!
When we went over Diversity in my Media class, we learned that White is the dominant colour in Television. In these specific stations ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and THE CW, constructed a test to see if there station shows are being diverse and they ended up being:
ABC- White: 78.2%
Black: 9.4%
Latino/Hispanic: 8.3%
Asian: 3.1%
American Indian: 1.0%
NBC- White: 71.0%
Black: 11.8%
Latino/Hispanic: 7.5%
Asian: 9.7%
American Indian: 0%
CBS- White: 79.3%
Black: 9.0%
Latino/Hispanic: 8.1%
Asian: 3.6%
American Indian: 0%
FOX- White: 77.7%
Black: 12.5%
Latino/Hispanic: 4.2%
Asian: 4.2%
American Indian: 1.4%
THE CW- White: 67.4%
Black: 26.9%
Latino/Hispanic: 3.8%
Asian: 1.9%
American Indian: 0%
Now to me this is a horrible percentage because there are more white people than the other races on the stations but at least the stations have diversity even though that the American Indians are the lowest race on television they occasionally do pop up in shows. Latinos and Asians also show up in shows but they’re not even close to white and sometimes the Latinos and Asians are usually the bad guys. The blacks are not that much different they might be the second highest race in the stations race calculations but they are also broad casted as a bad guy occasionally.
Another wrong from the Diversity channels is that some shows the ladies in some shows are portrayed as more as a home maker than as any other profession like a Doctor or a law enforcer. During the March Break my class had to do a Television study that how many races are shown and how many of them where female or male and what was there job in life.In my groups study, the only category that females dominated the males was as a homemaker or housemother. To me this is outrageous because females are more talented than males in some of the shows we watched where more capable to become much more smarter than the males in some of the categories.
We looked at a film that goes into this Diversity blog and that was a clip called "Girl Like Me." In this clip they have Black females on how they are stereotyped and that they reconstructed a test on 21 black toddlers that was originally tested in the 1950's. After the test was done with 71% of the black toddlers preferred the white dolls to the black doll. After the kids picked there doll they rather play with they asked which doll was the good doll and which was the bad doll and all of the toddlers chose that the white doll was good and the black doll was bad. When they asked the one black girl to choose which doll she looked like, it looked like she was going to pick the white doll but chose the black doll. To my opinion you don't need to construct a test to see if black kids prefer white than black.
That’s the end of my blog hoped you enjoyed yourself.
